While the coldest shelves in your fridge are good for raw meat, crisper drawers are best used for humidity-sensitive produce. To prevent contamination, avoid placing raw meat in the same drawers as fruits and vegetables.

Crisper drawers help manage humidity levels, keeping moisture-loving foods like greens fresher for longer. “Fresh” drawers, often set to the lowest temperatures without freezing, are ideal for storing meat, poultry, or fish.

Remember: “rot-low, wilt-high.” Fruits that rot easily should go in the low-humidity drawer, while leafy vegetables that wilt should be placed in the high-humidity drawer.
