Installation Requirements
Heat-Load Calculation
Do not select this system from cubic footage alone. A heat-load calculation should account for the cellar dimensions, insulation, vapor barrier, glass area, exterior walls, ceiling exposure, door type, lighting, occupancy, climate, and surrounding ambient temperature.
Cellar Insulation and Vapor Barrier

Is an airflow kit required?
Yes. Choose one ducted, ductless, or hybrid airflow configuration kit. The kit determines how the evaporator receives return air and delivers conditioned supply air.
What is the difference between the three airflow kits?
The ducted kit includes two duct plenums for fully ducted supply and return air. The ductless kit uses two airflow deflectors. The hybrid kit combines one duct plenum with one deflector.
Can the evaporator be hidden in a soffit or cabinetry?
Yes. The Blow-Through Series is specifically designed for concealed installations in soffits, custom cabinetry, wine walls, attics, and adjacent mechanical spaces, provided the installation meets structural, insulation, drainage, airflow, and service-access requirements.
Can this system cool a glass wine cellar?
It may be suitable for a glass-enclosed cellar, but glass significantly increases heat gain. A professional heat-load calculation is required before selecting the unit. A larger system may be necessary depending on the glass type, surface area, exposure, lighting, and ambient conditions.
What is the cooling capacity?
Capacity changes with fan speed, airflow configuration, and condenser inlet temperature. Published OMEGA 4000 ratings range from 3,441 sensible / 3,715 total BTU/h at the low fan setting in one fully ducted test condition to 4,792 sensible / 5,478 total BTU/h at the high fan setting in one ductless test condition. Use a heat-load calculation rather than a single maximum BTU figure.
How large a wine cellar can it cool?
The documents show different approximate cellar-size guidance depending on airflow configuration, but cubic footage alone is not reliable for final selection. Cellar construction and heat-load conditions must be evaluated before purchase.
Does the system include the refrigerant line set?
No. The line set is field supplied and must be sized, installed, insulated, pressure tested, evacuated, charged, and commissioned by a qualified HVAC-R technician.
How far can the condenser be installed from the evaporator?
The manufacturer publishes a maximum line-set distance of up to 100 feet. Correct line sizing, vertical-rise requirements, oil-management bends, and refrigerant charging procedures must be followed.
What line-set sizes are required?
For the Ω4000, the published liquid line is 1/4-inch OD. The suction line is 1/2-inch OD for runs under 50 feet and 5/8-inch OD for runs over 50 feet. The installer must verify the current manual and equipment labels before installation.
Does the evaporator require a drain?
Yes. The evaporator includes an internal condensate pump, but a drain line must still be connected and routed to an approved discharge location. The drain must be tested during startup.
Can the OMEGA condenser be installed outdoors?
Yes, but the compatible OMEGA exterior enclosure is required for outdoor installation. The condenser must also be level, properly supported, and installed with the required airflow clearances.
Can the OMEGA condenser be installed indoors?
Yes, but the OMEGA condenser ducting kit is required for indoor installation. The intake and exhaust must be ducted so rejected heat does not accumulate or recirculate around the condenser.
What electrical service is required?
This configuration requires a dedicated 15-amp circuit for the evaporator and a separate dedicated 110V, 15-amp non-GFI circuit for the Ω4000 condenser. The installer must confirm the rating labels and local electrical requirements.
Can I use a smart thermostat?
A customer-supplied compatible smart thermostat may be used when the optional 24V thermostat conversion kit is selected. Choosing that conversion removes the standard KDT controller and liquid-temperature bottle probe. WhisperKOOL does not provide technical support for third-party smart thermostats.
Why is the KDT bottle probe useful?
The bottle probe measures liquid temperature, which changes more slowly than cellar air. This helps the controller respond to the temperature behavior of stored wine rather than cycling solely because of brief air-temperature changes.
Does this system require professional installation?
Yes. WhisperKOOL requires split systems to be installed and commissioned by a certified or licensed HVAC-R technician. Professional installation is also required for warranty activation.
What cellar construction is required?
The cellar must be fully insulated, sealed, and protected by a continuous vapor barrier. The door must seal tightly, all penetrations must be sealed, and the room must be constructed to limit moisture and heat infiltration.
How much clearance does the evaporator require?
The owner's manual specifies at least 12 inches of front service-panel clearance. The airflow paths, refrigerant connections, drainage, wiring, and service sides must also remain accessible.
What size ducting is used with the Blow-Through 4000?
The Blow-Through 4000 uses 10-inch supply and 10-inch return duct connections. Ductwork must be insulated, sealed, supported, and designed to stay within the manufacturer's airflow and length requirements.
Can decorative linear registers be used?
Yes, provided they deliver adequate open-air area and comply with the manufacturer's register guidance. Highly restrictive slots, screens, backing, or louvers can reduce performance and cause excessive noise, coil freezing, or condensate problems.
What maintenance is required?
The system should receive annual preventive maintenance that includes coil cleaning, drain and pump inspection, filter and register service, electrical checks, fan inspection, refrigerant-performance verification, controller checks, and bottle-probe maintenance.
How is the warranty activated?
The HVAC-R installer must complete the Split System Warranty Checklist with all required operating readings and installation information. The checklist must then be submitted to and approved by WhisperKOOL.
What warranty is provided?
The system carries a limited two-year split-system warranty for qualifying parts and labor, with up to an additional one-year installation grace period under the manufacturer's approved startup-checklist terms.
